The aim of this competition ist to encourage the students to get involved in approaching a worldwode problem \u2013 the seismic risk.<\/p><p>In the competition, each team of students has to build a balsa wood model, which has to resist (and not collapse) during two different intensity earthquake simulatinos, generated by a shake table. As well, very important is the feedback received by the jury, which also evaluates the architecture of the building, the poster, the quality of the project presentation, and the seismic behaviour predictions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5dae8b3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5dae8b3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"bd-callout bd-callout-warning\"><div class=\"bd-callout bd-callout-warning\"><p>The importance of this competition is given by the many prestigious universities that participate, like University of California Los Angeles, University of California Berkeley, Stanford University, University of Michigan, University of British Columbia.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-76c7ccc e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"76c7ccc\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bb3aea1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"bb3aea1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who are the people from EERI?\n<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ff4b4c6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ff4b4c6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>EERI<\/strong>\u00a0is a nonprofit organisation, where engineers, geologists, architects, both researchers and practitioners, work toghether with\u00a0<strong>the following three goals<\/strong>:<\/p><ul><li>To reduce the risk represented by the sudden earthquake strikes.<\/li><li>To have a better understanding about the scientific notions used in the seismic engineering field.<\/li><li>To have a better understanding about the effects that earthquake have upon the physical, political, economical, social and cultural environment.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>All these goals can be achieved by obtaining accurate information about the buildings and using them in order to develop projects for buildings that will resist minimum 300 years, given the fact that this is the maximum recurrence interval for earthquakes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7b45a87 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7b45a87\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"bd-callout bd-callout-warning\"><div class=\"bd-callout bd-callout-warning\"><div class=\"bd-callout bd-callout-warning\"><p>Therefore\u00a0<strong>EERI is highly significant<\/strong>\u00a0in the seismic engineering field,\u00a0<strong>and also a worldwide important organisation.<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-13d0641 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"13d0641\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-211b3ea elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"211b3ea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What does the competition involve?\n<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5a3d70d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5a3d70d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the first glance, the competition seems easy:\u00a0<strong>manufacturing a balsa wood model<\/strong>\u00a0,<strong>\u00a0that must be as resistant as possible.<\/strong>\u00a0But this is not all.
